Budget Cuts

To my fellow Greek Brothers and Sisters,

I am sure you are all aware from the media and other emails you've received that the budget crisis affecting our University is serious and will impact every aspect of our educational experience to some degree.

One are that will see some of the biggest reductions is Greek Life. Effective July 1, 2009, the Office of Greek Life will be eliminated, leaving our Greek community in a challenging and difficult situation. I can promise that Cody Wagner and I will be doing everything we possibly can to make this a prepared and successful transition.

What I ask from each one of you is to have faith in the power of our community bonds that we will emerge from this crisis stronger than before. We will face tough situations and will need to rely on one another to get through these hard time.

Your IFC and Panhellenic officers will attempt to lessen the effects of these cuts as best we can. Cody and I will be sure to keep each of your organizations updated over the summer and in the fall.

Please write your ASUN elected officers and the University administration. We need our voices heard during this time more than ever before. Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.

Sincerely,
Allison Brown
Panhellenic President

Shout outs!

So, it is the first official day of recruitment for both sororities and fraternities on campus. Students have been enthusiastic about the [g] movement and we can tell by the numbers. During freshmen orientation, sororities hit the 100 mark and fraternities reached 90. But since then, the numbers for women going through recruitment have reached a total of 255. And, 220 men are interested in the fraternity system. Can I say WOW! We have not had this many people going through recruitment in years. It's about time though.

I also want to make a shout out to the Panhellenic recruitment gang, including the Rho Gammas. They have worked so hard and it is finally paying off. Also, great job IFC!! You have impressed the entire Greek community this year. We can't wait to see what's in store for the upcoming year!

Go [g] movement!

The [g] is moving...

It's been a week of breakthroughs for Greek life and for the movement, and it's only just begun!!! After a stellar Dorm Storm, the movement is beginning to see bigger numbers than it has ever before. More than 100 women have signed up to go through sorority recruitment, up 50% from this time last year. Also, yesterday's IFC house tours saw more than 90 men go through.

With this kind of momentum and numbers, the [g] movement is poised to change the University of Nevada campus forever!
